A library of two-note glissandos for creating expressive string textures. Play overlapping pairs of notes within a fourth of each other to cause two-note glissandos, or “ripples.”

On string instruments, you can add energy and life to the sound by moving between two notes, especially if you play them with a single bow movement. You can play the first note expressively and then let the second note merge with the first so that they sound like one gesture. If these notes were recorded separately and then joined together, they would not have the same nuance.

It is pleasant to play these two-tone modulations at different dynamics. To convey this feeling, all the samples are recorded as fades. At the beginning of the fade, the second note can be played so lightly that the pitch is barely discernible. It is like a ghost note. Then, as the sound builds, the glissandos naturally change and adapt to keep the sound fresh.

Like many other Osterhouse Sounds libraries, these are not standard string articulations. It is a specific playing style that works well when mapped to a piano keyboard. We hope this distinctive playing style will inspire you to find new ways to use strings in your music, whether in sample libraries or when working with session musicians.
